BENEFITING: American Red Cross
ORGANIZER: American Red Cross
EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. As you may know, in 2013 I took on the challenge of training for the Boston Marathon as part of Team Red Cross. I had the mindset that it would be my one and only marathon...until the tragic events of that Monday stopped me with less than one mile to the finish. I had always felt a connection with the mission of the Red Cross, I have donated blood multiple times and received health training early in my nursing career, but that day strengthened feelings for this wonderful organization. I was beyond impressed by how the Red Cross immediately came to action to help others. Personally I was touched as disaster mental health workers called to check in on me and reassured me that what I felt was normal and there would always be someone to reach out to if I needed it.
This year Marathon Monday will be different. I know physically I can pound through the miles and mentally I can deal with 4+ hours of running. Emotionally it will be a very challenging journey, but I hope to cross that finish line with joy in my heart. I know that I will think of each of you that have kindly donated to the Red Cross!
On April 21, 2014, Team Red Cross will run 26.2 miles to raise funds to continue our mission to alleviate human suffering in the face of disaster. We will run for those affected by the Boston Marathon bombing and the aftermath. And we will finish, Boston Strong.
Since 2012, Team Red Cross has raised more than $260,000 to support Red Cross programs and services. With every mile run and every dollar raised, Team Red Cross runners help to save and transform the lives of those in their greatest time of need. Team Red Cross brings together runners of all ages and abilities in support of the Red Cross mission, from first time marathoners to experienced competitors.
The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. Our network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world, through five key service areas: disaster relief, supporting America’s military families, supplying lifesaving blood, health and safety services, and international services.
Funds raised by Team Red Cross 2014 participants will benefit American Red Cross of Massachusetts programs and services. The American Red Cross of Massachusetts is one of the largest Red Cross chapters in the nation. We stand ready to assist the citizens of our Commonwealth in times of disaster to meet emergency needs; to alleviate hunger; to make ours a more resilient Massachusetts, and to educate our next generation in preparedness, health, safety and aquatics.
Special thanks to Dan Fitzgerald, Heartbreak Hill Running Company and South End Athletic Company for providing coaching and training for Team Red Cross runners.
