On April 21, 2014, Team Red Cross will run 26.2 miles to raise funds to support the mission of the American Red Cross to alleviate human suffering in the face of disaster. I will run for those affected by the Boston Marathon bombing and the aftermath by continuing my support of the mission of the Red Cross thru my volunteer efforts and fundraising.
Boston was forever changed on April 15, 2013. Within minutes of the Boston Marathon bombing, the American Red Cross responded by helping runners, visitors, spectators and first responders navigate the chaos. In the days, weeks and months to follow, the American Red Cross provided food, shelter, financial support, and mental health services to those affected, from victims and family members to first responders and community members.
As Captain of Team Red Cross for the third year, I am honored to have met so many new friends and appreciate all the dedication that our runners have made to their training and support of the Red Cross mission.
In 2012, my good friend, Mary Marshall, helped me crawl to the finish line in the 89 degree humid weather. Last year, she was by my side in the stands across from the first booming. Again she supported me during those difficult hours and days that followed.
This year, I am honored that Mary will be right by my side crossing the finish line together, I thank all my friends supporting my running efforts during the year, especially now during training. A very special thanks to coach Dan Fitzgerald who agreed four years ago to be a volunteer for Team Red Cross. His professional and compassionate approach to running and life keeps us going on the coldest of days.
Thank you for your support.
