BENEFITING: LAZAREX CANCER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 24, 2015
We are running the Big Sur International Marathon on April 24th, and raising funds for the Lazarex Cancer Foundation. Their mission is to help those diagnosed with end stage cancers live a life with hope, dignity, support, and to have access to advanced treatments.
Please join us on October 24th at the Grant Street Tavern from 3-7pm. Located on the 1st floor of the Grant Building in downtown Pittsburgh, it will be open solely for our event, serving drink specials for those that donate.
Why did we choose this charity?
Our mother passed away a year ago from stage four breast cancer. Prior to her passing, she battled her end stage cancer diagnosis for two years with strength and grace. This included periods of struggling through the treatment process, sudden deterioration in health due to a treatment no longer working, battling back while working through a new treatment plan, and ultimately accepting her passing.
Having spent the last four years travelling with our mother to the Walt Disney World Marathon, we felt that running for the Lazarex Foundation was the best way to honor her memory. Those long weekends were spent laughing, making memories, and supporting each other. With every race we run, we remember the strength of our mother.
Through these experiences, my sister and I feel passionate about the Lazarex Foundation's mission, and hope to give others battling through cancer the support and strength that our mother had. Our goal is to raise $2,500 in our mother's memory.
