Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muscatine County

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muscatine County, a program of the Muscatine Community YMCA, is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Tax ID 42-0680340

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muscatine County is a donor and volunteer supported organization serving Muscatine County and Louisa-Muscatine school district.

We are affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America: the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States.

Our goal is to build the strongest, longest lasting relationships possible, creating the biggest impact for youth.  To do this we depend on donations to recruit, interview, train, and screen incoming participants, evaluate and track results, and support matches.  We do this efficiently; it costs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muscatine County roughly $750 to support a Big/Little match for a year.  The national average for Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies is over  $1000 per match.

Partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters benefits our communities’ most important asset, its children.  Research and anecdotal evidence show specifically that Big Brothers Big Sisters’ one-to-one mentoring helps at-risk youth overcome the many challenges they face. Little Brothers and Sisters are less likely to begin using illegal drugs, consume alcohol, skip school and classes, or engage in acts of violence.1  They have greater self-esteem, confidence in their schoolwork performance, and are able to get along better with their friends and families.  By supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters, you are making a real difference in the life of children in our local community.
