On January 20, 2015, Dr. Michael J. Davidson was tragically murdered while at work and doing what he loved. He was a visionary who saw the future and prepared himself to not only participate in, but to lead that future of interdisciplinary, integrated "heart teams’, providing novel, improved, and less invasive solutions for complex heart patients.
Dr. Davidson graduated from Yale University School of Medicine in 1996 and completed residencies at Duke University Medical Center and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Following completion of his cardiac surgery training, he completed an additional year of training divided between the cardiac catheterization lab and the operating theatre, mastering sophisticated catheter skills and building a bridge to the hybrid future which he envisioned and helped to create.
On this fateful day, I had the privilege to be part of the Emergency Medicine team that cared for him in the Emergency Department. This will be a day that I will never forget. It was a honor to care for such an incredible surgeon, husband, and father.
That is why on April 17, I plan to run the 2017 Boston Marathon to raise money to benefit the Michael J. Davidson, MD Fellowship Fund (http://thoracicsurgeryfoundation.org/davidson). I run to honor his legacy and his memory.
I have been training very hard for the race but can’t succeed alone. I need your help to reach my fundraising goal of $8000. I am counting on the support of my family and friends to not only finish the race, but also to help the Stepping Strong Center achieve its goal of transforming trauma care. You can learn more about the center at www.BWHsteppingstrong.org.
I hope I can count on you to support my marathon run by contributing to this very special cause. Checks should be made payable to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and mailed to my attention at:
82 Commonwealth Ave, Apt 9
Boston, MA 02116
Thank you in advance for your support. Together, we can help support a deserving young surgeon committed to the vision of innovative and collaborative cardiovascular care that Dr. Davidson helped pioneer.
