Baker Industries is not a fancy nonprofit. We give work to people with intellectual and physical disabilities, ex-offenders, former substance abusers, and the homeless. We aren’t in luxury offices pontificating on how to make the world a better place. We’re in the trenches, working alongside the people we are helping, every single day of the year.
Our offices are humble. All of the furniture is donated, and the carpet is 12-year old mismatched remnants donated by a local rug guy. Some days we have to remind our program participants to bathe and brush their teeth. Occasionally we need to give someone a change of clothes because they didn’t quite make it to the bathroom in time.
We wouldn’t have it any other way. We love having a personal relationship with the people we serve. And our hearts burst with pride when we see their confidence grow and they move into the real workforce and succeed.
Since administrative costs at Baker Industries are at around 8.6%, virtually all money donated goes directly to helping our program participants prepare for mainstream jobs in the community. Please give generously. We’ll send you a nice thank you note.
Oh, and by the way, we get no money from the government so we REALLY are counting on you.
