Brian SAYS:
Well, another Boston Maratho…
Well, another Boston Marathon is in the books and I am incredibly grateful for the experience once again.

I’m grateful that I was able to slog my way through 26.2 miles of cold rain and wind.

I am grateful to be doing this for the 20th time, particularly as one of the fattest guys in the field… and I am most grateful for your involvement with my run and my GFC fundraising efforts.

I’ve shared this before, but to me, the Boston Marathon is a shared ritual that builds community, deepens friendships, and engenders confidence. The experience strengthens bonds, spotlights character, reveals generosity, and affirms the spirit.
I am grateful that you were again part of this marathon experience.

Last year’s marathon was one of a kind and this year’s was too, to be honest. This year’s event to me is the new normal – the traditional marathon feelings of goal setting, accomplishment and shared experience, but amplified with heightened involvement from so many and the renewed importance of this event to the city.

That Golf Fights Cancer has come such a long way since our first steps is a credit to the generous and loyal supporters that have joined our ranks over the years. We raised $150,000 for GFC with this year’s marathon, which is amazing. Specifically, we raised money for Rhabdomyosarcoma research at Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana Farber. The monies we raised this year are particularly meaningful to me, as my 6 year old little niece Kiley Sullivan has been fighting this nasty Rhabdo cancer for a year. It's heartbreaking to see so it feels great to try and do something to help.

I plan to run again next year and would love for you to be a part of the experience again. We Run Together.

Gratefully,

Brian

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who has supported me and the NWW team this year. We are closing in on our $20,000 team goal and with a final push I think we will be there.

Here are a few ways to follow me on Monday...

The Boston Marathon Mobile App. Download the app and enter bib numbers to follow up to 10 runners.

AT&T Athlete Alerts: Text the runner’s bib number to 234567.

Let me know where you will be on the route so that I don't miss you. As you know I will be running so fast in Newton that you may miss me as I race by. : )

thanks again for all of the support.

Thank you for supporting TeamGFC’s 2015 Boston Marathon fundraising efforts! We are proud of all 10 team members who have collectively raised $116,500. At this time, we are closing in on our goal of $125,000 and would like to ask for your help in getting there by way of matching gifts.

One in ten gifts are eligible for a corporate match. If all of our eligible supporters submitted their match, we could add approximately $10,000 to the cause! Would you kindly take a moment to follow the link below to verify if your employer (and/or your spouse’s employer) offers such a benefit? If you’ve already submitted your match, thank you!

What is an employer Matching Gift?

Many companies set aside funds each year to match contributions their employees make to qualified non-profit organizations. Most often, the companies match contributions dollar for dollar, and some programs may match at higher ratios!

What do I need to do to get my gift matched?

The employee must initiate the matching gift process. Just contact your HR department to obtain the proper paperwork or website link and submit basic information such as charity name, gift amount and gift date.

How can I verify to my company that GFC can receive charitable contributions?

Golf Fights Cancer is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN number is 34-1987772.

I wanted to send perhaps one more note regarding the marathon and provide an update on how your donations will be used. As you know I was inspired to raise funds for the Mass Eye and Ear Pediatric team based on the amazing work of Dr. Chris Hartnick and his fabulous team. Chris is a friend of mine and until I became part of the team did not realized some of the incredible work that he and his team do on a global basis. The funds raised from the 2014 Marathon are already going into two Pediatric Otolaryngology medical missions being planned for the children in El Salvador and Ecuador this year, and a mission to the Dominican Republic is in the planning.

Again, thank you for the generous donation and support.

So I made it from Hopkinton …
So I made it from Hopkinton to the finish line on Monday. It wasn't pretty going over the hills in Newton but I did manage to make it to Boylston Street and cross the line. I could not have imagined when I started this process the amount of support I would need and receive over this 12 month endeavor. I am amazed by your generosity and truly humbled by your words of encouragement. Thank you, thank you and of course thank you. And who knows...perhaps we can do this again next year. April 20th, 2015 if I recall correctly. ;)
