Bangalore because of its massive green cover almost three decades back had around 320 bird species. Due to the large scale destruction of bird habitats which includes trees and lakes, the city has lost one third of its bird species in the last 10 years.
“Watching species of birds around the city has been a visual treat. Initiatives to save the urban wildlife in the city would add to its serene beauty” says Vishwas Vr, Bird Watcher.
Bangaloreans have shown active participation in various awareness campaigns and volunteered in several help groups. The idea of bringing up a bird sanctuary at Vidhana Soudha to bring together the scattered population of birds recently, received a positive response. Gubbi Goodu, an initiative to save the sparrow population in the city which started just three months back has been able to save 600 families of sparrows till date.
Here is your chance to donate and bring back the birds.
