EVENT: Brooklyn Half Marathon 2012
May 19, 2012 - NYRR 5 Borough Series Brooklyn Half Marathon for Haiti Relief
Here we go! On May 19, 2012 I'll be running my first Half Marathon in an effort to raise money to provide medical relief in Haiti.
On June 10, 2012, our group of 5 physicians and medical students will travel to Haiti to work with Haitian doctors, nurses, and translators in an effort to provide primary care, wound care and pharmaceuticals for those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. Over the course of six days, we will provide care to roughly 1,450 individuals who might otherwise never have access to the care that they need. Haiti has the worst health conditions in the Western Hemisphere, according to the UN Development Program, including the highest rates of maternal mortality, malnutrition and HIV/AIDS for the region. More than one in three Haitians die from a preventable disease, and the strain is worsened by a critical doctor shortage, with only 2.5 physicians per 10,000 people.
Help us offset some of that strain! Please consider donating to help us reach thousands of Haitians with potentially life-saving aid.
Help me get to my fundraising goal of $1,200!
