THE STORY:

Juan Felipe Romero is a young leader from a rural area of Mexico and an international scholar at SUNY Broome Community College as part of the Scholarships for Education and Economic Development (SEED) Program which is funded by USAID and administered by CIED/Georgetown University. Juan Felipe is training to become a change agent and has the skills and knowledge to help improve conditions in his community and country.

In 2015, Juan Romero committed to build a year round greenhouse to create stability for twelve families in Mexico. Juan hopes to solve the issue of farmer migration at the end of the rainy season in Mexico. The greenhouse will operate all four seasons to generate jobs all year long, and produce will be sold at the municipality market. He will host bake sales and community events to raise funds and recruit partners. Juan will measure his success by counting the amount of jobs he provides to the people of Encinal de Canoas to prevent them from migrating to the U.S. to find work.
