The end of a journey, new beginnings. First, I just want to thank each and every loved one for kindly contributing to our 140.6 Miles of Hope  See more

THE STORY:

As of October 17, 2015, I am 30 weeks away from completing my next biggest challenge, the Texas Ironman 140.6 race.  This will be my first full ironman after completing three 70.3 half ironmans in 2015.  This life changing event presents itself again with another opportunity for me to help raise funds for the Lazarex Cancer Foundation.  So as of October 17, 2015 I start my charity campaign, "140.6 Miles of Hope."

First of all, I consider myself very blessed.  I Thank God, first and foremost, when in consideration to my good health and also for this amazing opportunity.  My life would not be as blessed had it not been for my mother, Patricia Arellano, and my girlfriend, Kimberly Ong.  These two are the most important women in my life. It's with their blessing and in their honor that I once again begin another charity campaign.  With their help, we have raised money twice with Team for Life benefiting the Lazarex Cancer Foundation.  These two breast cancer survivors are my reason for being so inspired to not just grow more as an athlete, but to also grow more as an individual.

I am not driven by tragedy for my motivation is Hope and Love.  I'm blessed with not losing someone personally close to Cancer.  I've met too many people whose lives have been touched or hurt or broken by such a terrible disease.  I want to help in one of the only ways I know how.   Taking on this Ironman is just a step towards my life's journey of trying to be a better and inspring person.  I only do so because of those around me who inspire me and bless me with their love and generousity.

Sometimes it takes just a small scare or a glimpse into possible tragedy to see what in your life really means to you.   For me that was in September of 2012 when both my girlfriend and mom were diagnosed with breast cancer just weeks apart.  Of course we survived the scare and are very thankful for that.  That doesn't mean that our eyes, and our hearts,  were not opened to the true value of life. I see more clearly now.    I enjoy every moment I have on this earth with them. I know my life is better because I have them there.  There isn't anything I wouldn't do to possibly extend each passing moment of each and every single day to have them a part of my life.

I don't have to explain cancer.  It sucks.  It's everywhere around us.  As I write this a great number of families are being changed and altered with such devastating news.   Since we did our first charity over 2 years ago, I've heard of people, friends, family of family, soul mates, loved ones, acquaintances, coworkers, neighbors, children, pets,  all lose their battle with cancer.  For all those I've met, and for all those I haven't met, I'm doing this for all of you.  You are my inspiration. You all are my hope.

There's many options out there for charities or groups or organizations whom you can choose to help.  There's raising awareness, there's helping funding research, and then there's groups like the Lazarex Cancer Foundation.  This foundation helps end of life patients get the treatment that they may not be able to afford or have access to.  I want to help those families find hope.  With their access to these trials, hopefully a miracle can be found.  It would be the ultimate goal to reach that point.  Helping this foundation is the right step in the right direction.

A full ironman consists of 140.6 miles of racing. It is a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run.   It is one of the most physical and demanding races that you can possibly put your body through.   My campaign is "140.6 Miles of Hope."  I have no dollar amount goal.  I personally don't benefit by fundraising other than the satisfaction of doing anther good deed as well as having hope that we are one step closer to finding a cure.

My goal is simple: 140.6 miles, 140 donations of any dollar amount.  Be it $1 or $100, a handshake, a like, a hug, a share, all of which I would appreciate.   The $4093 is just there to have a satement goal.  But if you're old like me, and understand pager code, then maybe you'll find the small humor in it. :) I just want to know that there are people out there who share my desire to end cancer as soon as possible.   Donate to us, share our page, say a little prayer here and there.  Any act of kindess will help us in the long run.  Together we will all inspire others and provide hope.
