BENEFITING: CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY INC
ORGANIZER: CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY INC
EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
I have dreamt about running the Boston Marathon for over six years and this year I have been given the privilege to run for Christmas in the City (CITC).
CITC is a volunteer run organization where members of the community donate their time to provide homeless children a Christmas. It started twenty-five years ago with a festive holiday party for 150 families. In 2013, more than 4,000 children attended the annual celebration where they were treated with carnival rides and games, a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus, a meal with their family, and a gift from their wish list. Since it's start, CITC has expanded into an all year initiative with programs such as Adopt-a-Family to help families transition from living in shelters to living in their own homes and employment services to help struggling families become self-sufficient.
On April 21st (aka my birthday) I will be running my very first marathon to celebrate the Spirit of Christmas… kindness, good will, and sharing with others. I am more than excited to be giving back to a community that has impressed, inspired, and humbled me, especially after the tragic outcome of last year’s Boston marathon.
As I lace up my sneakers and set my sights on completing the hilly course I would greatly appreciate any support that you can offer. Remember, children who are homeless do not have a choice in their condition. But, you have a choice to help!
