EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
There was a time I considered myself a “runner”. And there was a time where running the Boston Marathon was a goal of mine. In 2001 I accomplished that goal and followed it up by running Boston the following year. It was not until 2007 that I ran the marathon again after being talked into it by a good friend of mine. And after that one in 2007 I decided to hang my running shoes up. Not only was I was done marathon training; I was done with all distance running. Then something happened that changed the way I look at life, the way I used to look at life and the way I way look at life in the future. After a three-year battle with cancer my mom passed away this past January. Finishing those Boston Marathons years back had been some of the best experiences of my life. Now I had endured the most devastating moment of my life. My mom had always been so proud of me when I finished those three marathons. She was always there to give me a big hug after each finish. I wanted to make her proud again and I wanted to do something to honor her memory. I decided I would run the Boston Marathon again.
So I laced up my running shoes after a six-year lay off and started running again. As training picked up I learned about the Children’s Room, a wonderful organization for grieving children and families who have lost a loved one. It was a perfect match. Not only would I be running in memory of my mom, but also I would be running to make a difference for others; others who may not have had the chance to spend thirty-seven wonderful years with their mom or dad.
So as I continue on with my training to get me to the starting line of the Boston Marathon as part of the Miles and Memories Marathon Team, I ask for your support in helping me reaching my fundraising goal. Thank you in advance for your donations and support.
