Every year around 8 million people die from various cancers worldwide. Although this statistic is frightening, it is not just a statistic. It is a friend from college, a teacher, a co-worker or even a parent. On March 16th 2012, my mother decided to leave this earth after her tireless battle with Bladder Cancer. There is not one second of one day that passes that I forget her laughter, kindness towards others and overall passion for life. She consistently supported me through all of life's ups and downs, she instilled in me the values that I cherish most- family, friends, and love- and not to sweat the small stuff. She taught me to work hard, to never stop achieving my dreams, and to 'go for the gold' - which has made me the person I am today, and which has brought me to the reason I am sharing this with all of you. On March 16th 2014, I will run the New York City half marathon in her honor and dedicate each and every mile to her. Although cancer is an unfortunate epidemic in our society today, there is hope. Don’t believe in statistics, believe in solutions. Please join me in supporting the hope of cancer research, your support means the world to me.
