Sadly Chase lost his battle on June 7, 2014
In October 2013, my Nephew Chase Moore was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. This is a rare form of bone cancer that is aggressive and painful. Each year in the United States, osteosarcoma is diagnosed in approximately 400 children and adolescents younger than 20 years.
He had to endure extremely harsh Chemo treatments, blood transfusions, harsh medicines, and countless nights and weeks in Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). He suffered through all the side effects that come with these treatments. In addition, last month due to the aggressiveness of this cancer, the decision was made to amputate his right leg from above the knee.
Chase was a boy who up until this diagnosis was in constant motion. He was never seen without his skateboard, snowboard, and surf board or jumping on his trampoline with friends. A student who went into his senior year with straight A’s ,a kid that just started driving, enjoyed having his first serious girlfriend, planned on going to Prom and dreamed of graduation. Oh and… and a genuinely fun kid to be around!
Chase never asked “Why Me?” Because to do so would mean another kid would have to go this. His attitude had always been, “this is what’s happening and I will beat this”. Always looking ahead and not looking back. He was much stronger than I would be and much stronger than most people I know.
Chase, his Mom and family were dedicated to this fight.
