A sustainable future for Cleveland begins in its neighborhoods. Residents have led the way by adopting more sustainable practices, especially with riding their bikes rather than driving cars as well as composting their food waste rather than letting that go into the waste stream. We seek to capitalize on this momentum by creating Cleveland's very first bike composting service.
In partnership together, Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization, Bike Cleveland, Rust Belt Gardens, and Groundz Recycling, will establish "Cleveland Bike Composting," which will pick up and deliver food waste from residents using a fleet of bikes, and will drop off the waste at neighborhood community gardens to be composted.
This is an exciting opportunity to bring together the strengths of a diverse group of people to answer a need in our community.

As a community garden we seek to involve community residents at every possible level to become involved in advancing a sustainable economy in their neighborhood. By working to launch the Cleveland Bike Composting Project, it is our hope to build Cleveland's very first worker-owned composting services. By using custom-built trailers to remove food waste from the residential trash stream we will partner with community gardens, like ours, to provide a much needed service both to residents and gardens alike: building and providing nutrient rich compost. This carbon negative company will build capacity within communities to support initiatives that they believe in, and work to build on the already burgeoning bike and gardening communities that exist all throughout Cleveland. This model has been proven successful across the country. From the Pedal People in Northampton, Mass. to One Revolution in Burlington, Vermont to the Compostadores in the Twin-Cities. Climate is no obstacle to the power of compost!
By working with Bike Cleveland, Groundz Composting, Ohio State Extension, and Cleveland's Office of Sustainability we will have the technical support needed to take this concept to scale and establish this program across Northeast Ohio.
Please consider supporting our effort. Your donation will go a long way toward a healthier, friendlier, and more sustainable Cleveland
