Empowering Epilepsy is a nonprofit 501c3 public charity organization dedicated to enabling people with epilepsy to take charge of their lives. We provide free or low cost programs, events, services, and support that focus on improving the mind, body, spirit, and lives of over 65,000 people living with epilepsy and their families in Northeast Ohio.
Empowering Epilepsy was founded in 2014 by an amazing group of people in Northeast Ohio who understand epilepsy first hand. People with epilepsy tend to not talk about their seizures due to the centuries old stigma surrounding epilepsy. As a result, many of us live with epilepsy alone, with only a limited amount of resources that are available to people with epilepsy outside of our neurologist's offices. Empowering Epilepsy's mission is to change that conversation by creating a caring community in Northeast Ohio, and showing people what they can do while living with epilepsy.
We hold an annual Purple Day Party in March in both Cleveland and Akron at Freeway Lanes of Solon and AMF Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn, an Empower Your Life Conference, and an Epilepsy Awareness Month Pottery Painting Party in November. Monthly, we hold support groups in both the Cleveland and Akron areas that consist of an hour of talk time and an hour of free Empowering Epilepsy Restorative Yoga. We actively participate in over 25 health and wellness fairs throughout the year to educate the public about epilepsy and seizures, promote understanding of epilepsy, and to help people with epilepsy realize they are not alone while living with this debilitating chronic disease.
