As a result of the recent tragedy in Boston and the sudden passing of a dear friend Debbie Friedman, I have decided to compete and run in the 2013 San Francisco Marathon. In line with my Erase Hate Photo Campaign for the Matthew Shepard Foundation, which Debbie supported whole heartedly, I have committed to challenge myself and run to collect money to support the work done by the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Thank you to Walter Isenberg, CEO and President of Sage Hospitality, who has supported my decison and sponsored by entry into the race. A special thank you to the Blackstone, A Renaissance Hotel, Chicago, the Curtis, a Doubletree Hotel, Denver and several others who are official sponsors!
The Matthew Shepard Foundation was founded by Dennis and Judy Shepard in memory of their 21-year old son, Matthew, who was murdered in an anti-gay hate crime in Wyoming in October 1998.
Created to honor Matthew in a manner that was appropriate to his dreams, beliefs, and aspirations, the Foundation seeks to “Replace Hate with Understanding, Compassion, & Acceptance” through its varied educational, outreach and, advocacy programs and by continuing to tell Matthew’s story.
