GOAL is an international humanitarian agency that is dedicated to the alleviation of suffering amongst the world's poor. GOAL works towards ensuring that the poorest and most vulnerable in our world and those affected by humanitarian crises have access to the fundamental needs and rights of life such as food, water, shelter, medical attention and primary education. Since 1977, GOAL has spent in excess of $1 billion on humanitarian programs in more than 50 countries.
GOAL's sporting connections and friendships have been central to our 35 year history of humanitarian relief efforts across the developing world. GOAL was founded by a former sports journalist in 1977, and today our sporting connections span across all disciplines and age groups, from amaterus to international sporting stars. Our international sports patrons include Tennis star John McEnroe, US Open 2012 Tennis Champion Andy Murray, and Irish Rugby Star Jamie Heaslip.
GOAL also has a close relationship to the marathon world. In 2009, ultra-marathon runner Richard Donovan set a record by running 7 marathons (in GOAL's name) on 7 different continents in 5 days, 10 hours and 8 minutes. In early 2012, Richard improved on this record having completed another 7 marathons on 7 continents in 4 days, 22 hours and 3 mintues.
Since its inception in 1977, representatives of virtually every sport have been enormously generous to GOAL. From local amateurs to international superstars, they have devoted time and energy to GOAL. We are enormously grateful.
Please support Team GOAL USA in the 2012 New York City Marathon so that we can continue this tradition.
Thank you for your support!
