BENEFITING: GIRLS ON THE RUN GREATER BOSTON
ORGANIZER: GIRLS ON THE RUN GREATER BOSTON
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
On April 17, 2017 I will run my second Boston Marathon as a charity runner. This year, I am raising money for Girls on the Run Greater Boston to help ensure that every local girl realizes her limitless potential!
Girls on the Run is a life-changing, non-profit program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run volunteer coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. Running is used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. This gives the girls a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. The result—making the seemingly impossible, possible and teaching girls that they can.
As many of you know, running has changed my life. Running has motivated me to take better care of myself as well as create a better self image. It has boosted my confidence and helped me get involved with activities outside of work that enrich my life. It has increased my involvement in the community and helped me create life time friendships. Running has truly helped me to become the person I am today. I am passionate about it and it helps define who I am. It helps me to stay focused, healthy and active but most of all it has helped me stay strong, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. Running can help clear a clouded mind and discover what really matters. It creates clarity like no other outlet I know. I share my passion with as many people as I can and show them how running can be a positive outlet. Being a part of the Girls on the Run Boston charity team allows me to do just that. It allows me be a positive influence and help girls to believe in themselves and to make positive decisions during a time in their life that can be very difficult. Growing up is hard. Being a young girl in today’s society, is even harder than when I was young. I wish I had an outlet like this when I was growing up.
Last year I was able to raise over $5000 for charity with your help. This year, I have increased my fundraising goal to $7,000 for Girls on the Run Boston. Your donation can help me achieve this significant goal. Any amount contributed will help me get to 26.2. Please help me to reach my goal. Make a donation in honor of your sisters, daughters, mothers, wives, girlfriends and best friends. For any donation made in someone’s name for $100 or more, I will wear a ribbon with their name on my singlet race day. Our goal is to never turn an interested girl away based on her family's ability to pay for the program. Funds raised through the Boston Marathon Official Charity Program will go towards our scholarship fund to ensure that every interested girl is able to participate and will also help us to expand into more towns, schools, and community centers to help ensure that every girl realizes her limitless potential. Thank you in advanced for your donation and support.
