Fundraising Goal Reached!
October 05, 2016
BENEFITING: Huntington's Disease Society of America, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I will be running the New York City marathon on November 6th with the Huntington's Disease Society of America. Huntington's disease is a genetic disorder that involves the breakdown of nerve cells in the brain resulting in the loss of cognitive, behavioral and physical control. There is no cure for this disease and any child who has a parent with Huntington's has a 50% risk of carrying the faulty gene.
I am running this race in honor of my friend and former college roommate, Melissa Bilchik (second on the left with her twins and our other college roommates). Mel's mother was diagnosed with Huntington's a few years ago. As a result, Mel went through the testing process and sadly, her test was positive for the Huntington gene. Although she is pre-symptomatic, Mel knows that she will develop the disease in her lifetime and has since been extremely proactive about raising awareness for this disease. I want to do my part in supporting Mel and her family and others who suffer from Huntington's and I look forward to working with the HDSA along the way.
The Huntington's Disease Society of America is the premier nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by Huntington’s disease. From community services and education to advocacy and research, HDSA is the world’s leader in providing help for today and hope for tomorrow for people with Huntington’s disease and their families.
HDSA's network of chapters, affiliates, HDSA Centers of Excellence, social workers and support groups provides a seamless connection for help, education and outreach to HD families and health care professionals across the United States.
All funds raised will help support HDSA's Mission of helping those affected by HD and their families.
Your contributions are greatly appreciated and no amount is too small. Even if you are not able to donate, please feel free to share my page with your friends and family.
Thank you for your generosity!
