Hello all and welcome to the Team Hoyt 2012 Boston Marathon fundraising page for Team Tim. Before we tell you about Team Tim, we want to give a big thanks to all those who have made this journey possible. We also want to give advance thanks to all of those who donate. Rest assured that every cent dontated is going to a very worthy cause and we know that none of this would be possible without your gracious support and contributions.
Team Tim consists of Tim Brown and Dennis Welch.
Tim Brown is a 31 year old rider athlete who has been competing for Team Hoyt Virginia Beach since 2009, where he participated in his first race, the Rock n' Roll half marathon. Since then, Tim has been participating in any and every race he can. You can find Tim racing any distance from 5k to the full marathon.
Tim’s running spirit has not been hindered by challenges in his life, including spastic quadriplegia, blindness, complex seizure disorder, and cognitive deficits. Tim loves the thrill of running, loves life, loves people, is quick to smile and say “hi”, and considers himself a “chick magnet”.
Tim also has a great support crew, including his Dad, brother Steve, as well as his other buddy, Victor—all Team Hoyt VB runners. His “pit crew” includes his Mother, sister-in-law Cameron (also Team Hoyt VB runner), and terrific nephews, Samuel and Nathan
The other half of Team Tim is runner Dennis Welch. Dennis has been a life long runner who joined Team Hoyt Virginia Beach in 2010 and ran his first race pushing at the Rock n' Roll half marathon.
Since that first race, Dennis still continues to get "the chills" every time he steps behind the racing chair and toes the starting line of another race.
Tim and Dennis live and breathe the "Yes You Can" spirit that is Team Hoyt. For these two athletes, there isn't a race too long or too tough and they often draw inspiration from their hero's Dick and Rick Hoyt to get them through some of the tougher races.
In May of 2011, Tim and Dennis had a chance to meet their hero's when they and their Team Hoyt VB family were invited to Holland, MA to share in a very memorable weekend with Dick and Rick.
During that amazing weekend with the Hoyt's, the seed of running the Boston marathon was planted and it has been a goal for both Tim and Dennis to run with Dick and Rick on the biggest running stage in America (if not the world).
In September of 2011, the phone call came from Team Hoyt saying that Tim and Dennis had been accepted to be part of the Boston 2012 charity team. Needless to say, both Tim and Dennis were ecstatic and it still feels like a "Am I Dreaming" moment for them.
Tim and Dennis intend to spend the winter of 2011/2012 putting in many hours of training and tweaking their racing chair to shave off as much time as possible so that they are both at their best when they represent Team Hoyt at the Boston Marathon 2012.
Tim and Dennis would like thank all of those who will share this journey with them. They both know that without the support from all of you who "lend a hand", none of this would be possible.
A special thanks to all of our family and close friends who know just how much this means to us and also a huge thanks to Dick and Rick who continue to prove over and over that "Yes You Can" is not just a motto, but a lifestyle and a vision that allows us to rise to all of the challenges and put forth all of our efforts to continue giving to those with special needs.
Boston 2012 will be the platform for Tim and Dennis to show the world just what "YES YOU CAN" really means!!!
