BENEFITING: International Rescue Committee
ORGANIZER: International Rescue Committee
For the past several months I have been training for the NY Marathon (my first marathon). It is a luxury to be able to run for pleasure and not running for my life like others around the world. In witnessing thousands and thousands migrants and refugees risking their lives to flee civil wars, gangs, and horrid living conditions I realize that we need to channel our energy and charitable resources to helping those in imminent danger and need.
As the conflict in Syria enters its fifth year, your support is needed like never before. Half of all Syrians have been forced to flee their homes, and neighboring countries are severely overburdened by the massive influx of refugees. The International Rescue Committee is currently providing support to hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and Syria. Your support provides uprooted families with medical care, clean water, sanitation, education, women’s protection services and other vital aid.
I understand that there are many other crises occurring domestically in the United States on a daily basis but the refugee and migrant crisis is one that hits close to home with the work I do as an immigration lawyer. My goal in the next ten years is to continue to run at least one marathon per year and raise funds for a different charitable organization each time. My goal is to raise a symbolic amount of $2,620 per marathon, since the marathon is 26.2 miles. Therefore, I pledge to kick off this fundraiser by giving $262.00 and ask that you also give to help the migrant and refugees get the basic supplies and aid that they dearly need.
Now more than ever — you can make a difference as well.
