Ian Somerhalder is currently starring on the CW show “The Vampire Diaries”. He started the Ian Somerhalder Foundation in 2010 to empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures.
Ian was named a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador for Environment Program in May 2012. He won The 2011 Wyler Award at the Humane Society Genesis Awards for raising awareness of animal issues via the media. He was actively involved in the Gulf Coast clean-up after the BP spill. Ian addressed Congress in July 2011 in regards to H.R. 50, the Multinational Species Conservation Funds Reauthorization Act of 2011. He signed on as a spokesman for The Alliance of Global Conservation with Don Cheadle. Ian and his brother Bob launched Built of Barnwood in April 2012 based around reclaiming and recycling barn wood to build unique furniture and pieces for the home. ISF brought the “Let’s Get Dirty” initiative to California in April 2012 to help clean up the state of litter and waste.
“He and his organization need all the help they can get for this special project. So what is the ISF Animal Sanctuary? It’s not your ordinary venture. Based in Somerhalder’s home state of Louisiana, the sanctuary is a safe haven for neglected animals and a place to transform bullies. It’s a home for animals to show their love and where bullies can learn how to show compassion and “work through their issues.”
“Here’s what the site says, “We will bring the bruised together as a family to learn just how unique — and just very the same — we all are…and how if we unite…we are NOT the outcasted, we ARE the UNSTOPPABLE.”
“All Somerhalder and ISF asks for is a small donation to get the project going. According to the organization, they need $5 million to build and officially bring the animal sanctuary to life.”
