THE STORY:

On April 28th, 2014 my dear friend Joanna Sadaka was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the tender age of 33. However, this journey of unfortunate luck started with her mother being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer November 22nd, 2013 and her father being chronically ill for years in and out of the hospital, leaving the family unable to work having to go on disability. And it does not stop there.

On March 20th, 2014 Joanna went to the ER with horrible pains in her upper abdominal region. Doctors immediately assumed that she had gall stones so they removed her gall bladder. While removing the gall bladder they noticed a what they thought was an ulcer that was blocking her bile duct. Because the ulcer was so large, they were unable to insert a stint to open up the blocked duct, causing her to have a bag inserted to her liver that hung outside of her body to release toxins. After a month of being in the hospital and taking the proper medication to break down the ulcer, nothing had worked and the ulcer was still the same size. After 4 failed attempts to try and get a stint inserted to release what they thought was a stone, the doctors were puzzled and honestly gave up and said "There is nothing more we can do for you here." She was discharged and sent home with pain medication and an appointment with a doctor a week later for a check up. She went home, still feeling terribly ill, throwing up and in severe pain. The next day she tells her mom that something is not right, her mother begins to think anxiety due to her being out of hospital, however, Joanna insists that she knew her body and something was definitely wrong and she was taken UCI Medical Center in Orange.

During this process, her mother Eva, was going through aggressive chemo for her breast cancer, making it difficult for her to be with her daughter. Her father is also in the hospital dealing with giant benign tumors that had spread to his lungs and legs, making it impossible for him to be with her as well.

Bringing us to April 28th, 2014, the day they diagnosed Joanna with pancreatic cancer. Turns out the ulcer was a cancerous tumor and she had been misdiagnosed this entire time. She is 33, beautiful, smart, charismatic, hysterical and full of life! Please help us make the lives of this family a little easier and donate to her cause. We will also be giving a percentage of proceeds to Stupid Cancer Organization.
