DAY TO GO
"Ask yourself: 'Can I give more?'. The answer is usually: 'Yes'."
-Paul Tergat, Kenyan professional marathoner
2017 will mark my 6th consecutive Boston Marathon. Each April, post-race, I have inevitably been asked, "You must be through with marathons now – will you run again?" And each April, I have replied with a timid, “I’m not sure...”
I reply in this manner NOT because I love long runs in the cold unforgiving months of January and February, in the ever less-forgiving Northeastern climate. Or because I believe it’s a particularly easy task to raise nearly $10K, asking family and friends to (repeatedly) practice generosity. I reply in this manner because year after year (after year!), I am left with the feeling that I indeed have the potential to GIVE MORE – more to my charity, more to my supporters, more to myself.
I am fortunate to be joining the Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) Marathon Team for the 3rd year in a row. The foundation’s mission is one I am proud to support: to provide financial and emotional support to cancer patients and their families when it is needed most . They endeavor to find ways to answer the question of “Can I give more?” with a resounding, “Yes!”
Though I recognize how lucky I am to run with JAF again, I also understand that someday soon I will need to step aside and allow other equally passionate and capable charity runners take my place (and also give my amazing donors a break!)
But that time is not now.
As long as I have air in my lungs and legs underneath me, I am confident I can find it within me to GIVE MORE. To support this mission, to honor loved ones, to be a vehicle for hope and to inspire others by my example to do the same. I am eager to pledge this fundraising commitment to team JAF for 2017!
I am certain when I ask myself that question on cold winter mornings, or training on Heartbreak Hill, or in the final miles amidst the anxiety and discomfort on race day, the answer will not be answered with ambiguiety but with an emphatics YES!!
Please donate to this incredible cause and ask yourself: Can I give more?
