EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I am running the Boston Marathon in honor of my big brother Justin who was with diagnosed stage 4 lymphoma in 2015 and kicked it's butt
On the evening of Thanksgiving, my brother went to the emergency room. It had been a couple of months since his stomach began to bother him and multple trips to various doctors and hospitals left him with no answers. After a couple of long days in the hospital he was diagnosed with lymphoma and started treatment immediately at Beth Israel Medical Center.
I was a runner in highschool and would go into Boston for Marathon Monday with my track team, run Heartbreak Hill, and cheer on the runners throughout the day. I never felt the urge to run Boston until this past Patriots Day. Just weeks before the marathon, Justin finished his sixth and final round of week long chemotherapy treatment. Suddently running the 26.2 miles didn't seem like much compared to what Justin and thousands of other cancer patients go through daily.
Fast forward, Justin is in remission and celebrating his 38th birthday with good health. I could not be more excited to be running the Boston Marathon in honor of him.
Team JAF joins together to support the Joe Andruzzi Foundation's mission of providing help, hope, and a reason to smile for cancer patients and their families by contributing financial and emotional support when it is needed most.
