DAY TO GO
My oldest brother Justin was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at Thanksgiving in 2015. He immediately started 6 rounds of chemotherapy at Beth Israel that spanned the course of the next 5 months. The diagnosis sent a shockwave through my brother and our family, and it was one of the first times our family had been exposed to the frailty of life. My brother fought hard, and he has been in remission for roughly a year. I am so grateful for the incredible treatment he received and his improved health. Justin has always been first to lend a hand when anyone needed help or support, and he is loyal to a fault. I was fortunate enough to live near Beth Israel while he was in treatment, so I was able to pop in freely. He always had visitors, whether family or friends, and this was the perfect testament to his character. Despite the 10 year age difference, Justin was never too busy growing up to throw me ground balls on the side of the yard or diving throws over snowbanks with the football. This race is my way of honoring him for what he has done for me the last 29 years of my life and the way he battled his cancer with a positive mindset. To make this run even more meaningful, I am grateful I have the chance to do this run with my younger sister who was a support system during this difficult time in my life. We all struggled through my brother's treatment in different ways, but I know this race will be special for us both, as well as my entire family. I am excited I have the opportunity to run and raise money for cancer research with the hope that in the future less families will endure what our family experienced.
Team JAF joins together to support the Joe Andruzzi Foundation's mission of providing help, hope, and a reason to smile for cancer patients and their families by contributing financial and emotional support when it is needed most.
