Jon is a 40 something that had no idea what would hit him.
In college he enjoyed his friends, education and the weekends.
Filled with fun, as any college boy would, he lived large.
Then one day in college...he received the bad news that he was diabetic. Not understanding the disease and not getting the proper education about how to manage the disease to prevent it from becoming worse, Jon continued his fun.
Fast forward 16 years later - his health is taking a toll - but was hidden by the fact that he was working 15 hour days.
Fast forward 3 years more and this health has taken a turn for the worse. He moved from oral medication to insulin to manage his diabetes. Then in July of 2011, broke his heel while on vacation which revealed much more serious issues surrounding his health.
Today, Jon is on the transplant list for both Stanford University and UC Davis for a dual organ transplant. He is in need of both a kidney and pancreas transplants.
There are friends and family who are being tested to be a live donor which would help Jon find a new kidney sooner. Right now, the wait time for a dual transplant from a deceased donor is 5-8 years.
We are running in honor of Jon Lee - so that we can help raise the level of awareness around organ donation.
And, so that we can provide him a second chance to just have fun again - without all the crappy tubes attached to him!
We will run hard and fast! Come out and support us!
