I am running my second consecutive Boston Marathon as part of Team Joslin to support a fantastic cause - the Joslin Diabetes Center's High Hopes Fund. Last year was a tough run, in 90+ degree weather, but I managed to finish (a lot slower than I hoped!) and more importantly, raised over $22,000 for this great cause. This year I am putting myself through the pain again...
Why? There are over 25 million people in the U.S. living with diabetes and another 80 million showing pre-diabetic symptoms, and the number of people with the disease is growing rapidly, both in the US and abroad.
Joslin Diabetes Center, a teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is a one-of-a-kind institution on the front lines of the world epidemic of diabetes — leading the battle to conquer diabetes in all of its forms through cutting-edge research and innovative approaches to clinical care and education.
The funds I raise will contribute to Joslin’s research and to the most comprehensive diabetes patient care and education in the world. Team Joslin incorporates the spirit of giving with maintaining an active lifestyle – two essential elements in the fight against diabetes.
Any amount of money you can afford to donate will be much appreciated and will have a tremendous impact - thanks in advance and I look forward to keeping you updated on my progress!
