BENEFITING: JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK INC
ORGANIZER: JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!!
I couldn’t be more thrilled that two things that are so important to me – volunteering at the New York Junior League and running – are coming together!! To know me is to know how much I love both! So how could I pass up an opportunity to do something I love for an organization I love?!!
Why do I love this organization? One of the great things about the NYJL is that the more time and energy I’ve put into the organization the more I get out in return. Our 2,600 volunteers all have one thing in common: they are all positive examples of strong leadership! Spending so much time around these accomplished, inspiring women has instilled me with a level of confidence to achieve things I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. One thing every volunteer has in common is the willingness to go the extra mile, and I am continually motivated by that spirit of generosity.
The other great thing about the NYJL is the myriad ways it helps improve the NYC community! Who will your donation benefit? The NYJL works with over 20 different organizations, including schools, neighborhood centers, family shelters, senior residences, prisons, and hospitals, to improve the health and well-being New Yorkers in need.
A few examples include:
- Running life skills workshops at Covenant House;
- Cultivating the next generation of art lovers at P.S. 64;
- Instilling confidence with job skills training by working with the Andrew Glover Youth Program, Women In Need: Jennie Clarke and East River Family Center
- Partnering with New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Domestic and Other Violence Emergencies (DOVE) program to offer advocacy, emotional support, and information to survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault during their stay in the ER
The short story: the work we do in the NYC community is critical. Our more than 20 community partners rely on the NYJL to devote much-needed funds and tens of thousands of hours of work per year to provide essential services to the community that they simply don’t have the capacity to provide on their own.
Our NYC community partners know that the NYJL will do whatever it takes to get the job done, but we know we can’t do it alone…..so here is where my love of running becomes relevant! Two things are happening for the first time:
The NYJL is fielding a team to fundraise in the NYC marathon
I’m fundraising (what?!?!)
I have to be honest, after five marathons the thought of running 26.2 miles doesn’t faze me too much anymore, but fundraising does!! However the NYJL is also a training organization and devoted to developing the potential of women and they’ve taught me to push myself further than I thought I could. So I decided to go for it!!
Every little bit helps! I will be tremendously grateful for all donations- and ultimately, so will a New Yorker in need.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!! YOU ARE ALL WONDERFUL!!!!! XOXOXO
