BENEFITING: JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK INC
ORGANIZER: JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
I joined the Junior League of New York in the Fall of 2013 with the hopes of finding an outlet for my desire to volunteer for a charitable purpose. Ideally, I thought, maybe I would also make a few friends, learn a few skills, or develop a few professional connections. And what a decision! The League has completely exceeded my expectations! I've made wonderful friends, networked with inspiring women who are leaders in their fields, and improved my leadership skills by attending super-informative training sessions. But most importantly, I can truly feel how the League's efforts have a massive impact on the New York City community. I am so proud to be a part of that.
I ran the 2015 Brooklyn Half with Team for Kids, a charitable organization dedicated to promoting fitness among children in New York City (and beyond!). I had run a few halves previously, but it was great to take the course with a purpose to propel my feet and with a team, cheering each other on to the finish.
With that same spirit, I am so excited to be a member of Team NYJL for the 2015 TCS NYC Marathon! I hope you will support me in my efforts to the finish line by supporting the charitable efforts of an organization which is truly dear to my heart!
A little bit about me: I am an Active member on the Astor House Events fundraising committee, where I will serve as the Manager of Food over the 2015-2016 year. Originally from the Catskill Mountains of Upstate NY, I am a life-long runner and former member of the Onteora High School girl's track team (where I competed in MUCH shorter distances than marathons!). I took a hiatus from running seriously while studying at American University in Washington, DC, but picked it up again during my last year at Brooklyn Law School when I ran the 2012 NYC Half Marathon as a way of getting back to my roots after so many years of hard study. In addition to volunteering with the Junior League, I love giving back to my college community by serving as the president of the American University New York City Young Alumni Chapter.
Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page and for your support of the Junior League of New York!
