My name is Gaia Knight. I am 16 years old, and was diagnosed with OCD, depression, and mild sensory processing disorder in August 2009, a few months before my ninth birthday. Originally my compulsions were based around fears about contamination. Fearing all food as being poisoned, I stopped eating. This resulted in me weighing about 40 pounds and being able to fit into toddler sized clothing by the end of the year. I washed my hands until they bled, tracked everything I touched for hours, and feared household chemicals. Today, following years of CBT and gaining access to needed resources, I no longer struggle with contamination compulsions, but still struggle with having to do tasks in even numbers, needing repeated reassurance, and other obsessions. Everyday I work hard to try and combat mental health stigma and educate others on what mental disorders actually entail, allaying pop culture myths. If you can and are willing, please donate and join the fight. If you are unable to donate, please help me spread the message. Thank you.
