BENEFITING: Literacy Chicago
We take for granted being able to read: signs, books, magazines, emails, or Facebook postings. But what if you couldn't read a job application, a job posting, a book to your child or their homework, a birthday card, or even a prescription bottle? These are often the roadblocks illiterate adults face every day. But Literacy Chicago’s adult literacy instruction and tutoring provides a road-map for these adults, ages 18-60+ to change their lives and livelihoods.
These adults come from the neediest of Chicago's 77 community neighborhoods. They are eager to read at a higher level, Literay Chicago provides them with 60 to 200 hours of FREE tutoring/classroom instruction. They can attend English as Second Language classes and seek to acquire their GEDs. Literacy Chicago also provides curriculum on work readiness skills to help adult learners write resumes; search for jobs and/or garner the workforce skills to remain employed or advance into a higher paying position.
Every donation matters when it comes to meeting the needs of illiterate adults and their drive to change their lives for themselves and their families. Please give $25 - $50 - $100 -- or more! Ongoing support for Literacy Chicago is an investment in everyone’s future!
