Friends and Family,
There is an amazing program here in Santa Fe that provides riding and swimming lessons to special needs adults and children at no charge. Las Campanas Compadres is a 501c3 LCC that provides horseback riding and swimming opportunities for therapeutic physical skill development for individuals with physical, emotional, and learning disabilities. Lessons are free for particpants. To date the program has underwritten approximately 6,000 lessons and is on track to underwrite 1,500 per year.
Zoe has been part of the therapeutic riding program for several years and her physical strength and coordination improvements have been amazing.
The program's primary fundraiser is a triathlon held at Las Campanas in September. Many of the program's students participate to the extent they can on a team for the triathlon and it is very inspirational to see them out on the course supporting one another and pushing themselves to reach new goals. Please check out the photos of the triathlon from last year that I have included on this page.
As part of the fundraiser, the program is urging participants to "adopt" a horse by raising the money it costs to board and feed a therapy horse. Zoe is trying to raise enough money to "adopt" the therapy horse she rides (Bolero). It costs approximately $2000 a year to pay the boarding, feed, and veterinary bills for each therapy horse. More information on adopting a horse can be found here:
Please consider supporting this wonderful program.
