I've laced up a new pair of shoes and I'm hitting the pavement (or the treadmill, because, hey, snow!) one more time for the Mass General Pediatric Cancer Care Marathon Team. Why? Because, even though I've run 4 times before and even though this year marks the 20th Anniversary of the MGH Team, there are still children diagnosed with cancer every day. In 2012 I was honored to be the parent speaker at the MGH Team pasta dinner. I explained then that the reason why I take this body out to do something it really doesn't want to do is because I want to be the last mom who has to be told her child has cancer. This year I have the double honor of running for both Ronnie and Caoimhe McKiernan. Caoimhe was Ronnie's "chemo" buddy way back when they were 2 and 3 years old. I've had the pleasure of watching Caoimhe grow up into a remarkable middle schooler. I run so that every Ronnie and Caoimhe will have that chance.
