BENEFITING: STOKED MENTORING
We are riding our bikes across the United States to raise money to create Live A Big Life Scholarships for STOKED.
Just about everybody that is successful has done something, gone somewhere or met someone that opened their eyes and showed them their potential to do something big with their life. For many youth growing up in New York City and Los Angeles, cities where STOKED operates, the opportunity to do something like that is not a reality. So, through this Live A Big Life Campaign, high school graduates of STOKED will be able to apply for a Live A Big Life Grant which will close that opportunity gap for them and allow them to live their own big life by doing something or going somewhere during the summer after high school graduation.
Maybe they’ll choose to go to a surfing camp across the country, maybe they’ll go on a backpacking adventure, maybe they’ll go to music camp, whatever it may be.
We aim to raise over $50,000 to create 100 grants.
STOKED is a non-profit organization that works with inner city high school students to help them become college and career ready through action sports, after school programs and mentoring.
The “Live A Big Life Fund” is in memory of a 20 year old snowboarder named Cameron Howe. In describing Cameron, his parents said “He packed a lot into his 20 years, he lived a big life.” To live a big life means to go big, to take risks, to go out of your comfort zone, to push yourself and to live to your fullest potential.
Inspired by Cameron, we are off to my Big Life’s next adventure: this cross country bike ride, from Santa Barbara, CA to Brooklyn, NY. We plan on enabling the same opportunity for the next wave of high school graduates in inner city New York and Los Angeles.
