BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
So I have decided to run the Boston Marathon again this year. I do not want my last memory of the Boston Marathon to be one defined by the bombings. I will run this year's marathon to take in all of the images of the spectators of Boston who cheer and encourage like no other. This year, every step along the 26.2 mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston will remind me of how much good is still in the world.
I also will be one of the thousands running who will run to remember. We will remember those who were lost, those who were injured, and all of us who have been changed since the last running of the marathon. I will also be running for all of my patients who are battling cancer and for those who have lost their fight to cancer. I couldn’t be more proud to be a member of this year’s team and their passion in continuing to raise funds for kids with cancer. Every year, we make great strides in curing children with cancer, but there is still more work to do. So please help me reach my fundraising goal and help kick kids cancer!!
About my Cause:
Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock Financial, the Mass General Marathon Team has raised nearly $9 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital forChildren (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
MGHfC has put these funds to good use advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. But MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families. The marathon program also supports child life activities such as art and music therapy and support services for parents and siblings of patients.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends as they go through this historic journey.
The 2014 marathon is going to be one of the most historic 26.2 mile runs ever and we are honored to be a part of it. We appreciate your support. MGH Strong!
