Hi, my name is Marie and and I live in Burlington, Vermont, a vibrant city rich in natural beauty. We have many small farms in the area that provide us with a great variety of fresh foods, as well as a thriving farmers' market where I sell my handcrafted goods. I am aware of my blessings and good fortune daily, and want to see this beauty and bounty preserved! In recent years, we have seen climate change impact our communities with extreme storms, destroying our land and inundating our farms.
It is clear to me that our climate and our exquisite jewel of a planet are being compromised as a direct result of the way we are living. I believe the earth is sacred and merits our respect and protection. I see this march as a timely call to action. I am excited to join this dedicated group of people to bring attention and focus to the issue of climate change. My hope is that in each of the communities that we visit, we will inspire positive action to promote and sustain the health of our planet.
I’ve grown complacent in some of the choices I make in my day to day life that contribute to the issue of climate change. I am looking forward to this walk as an opportunity to rid the excess; reaffirming my joy in the simple pleasures and being part of a community with a dedicated purpose.
These words of a dear friend resonate with me. “I know that what we do matters. I also know that much is out of our control but that doesn't release us from the obligation to life. I believe we are most alive when we are investing ourselves for the good of all - however that might look.” ~ Angela Magara.
With love and joy,
