BENEFITING: Maasai Wilderness Conservation
EVENT DATE: Sep 01, 2012
Work, get money, spend money, rinse, and repeat: That's what I have been doing ever since I left college. I graduated high school and went off to college with a dream of "making it". Everyone told me that's the way it works, go to school, get smart, and then get money. Money gets you the things you want.
What about those who don't have the same opportunities of education that the rest of us have? Does that mean they have no chance of "making it"?
No! Thanks to the kind efforts of organization like the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, schools are built all over the Kenya to give Maasai children a chance to move forward in their lives with the advantage of knowledge and intelligence on their side.
However, constructing a few buildings is just the first step to creating a school. Schools need to be filled with supplies, teachers, medical staff, food, and of course, students. This is where you come in ;-)
I have volunteered two weeks of my time to go out to a remote school outside of Loitokitok, in southern Kenya. While there, I will be performing various maintenance tasks to improve and complete some of the recently built buildings on the school campus. I am looking for people to donate money to cover the costs of the paint, brushes, and supplies to perform the tasks I have volunteered to do. In addition, I would love to be able to show up to the school with an even larger sum of money to cover other costs for additional improvements or supplies for the school.
Any money you donate will go directly to the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, and specifically towards the improvements to this particular school.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you have a few bucks to spare towards this great cause!
