Lauren Brown wrote -Hi all! Last year many of you walked or sent generous donations to help raise awareness for postpartum mental health. The walk around Walden Pond was the perfect setting for a beautiful and inspiring day! This year, I am excited to represent the Massachusetts Chapter of Postpartum Support International as Climb Leader. Funds raised are going to support PSI on a national level but will also go to a local organization, First Connections, that provides free services to families in eleven Metrowest towns. This year, I have set the goal at $10,000 as that is the cost to run one weekly postpartum support group for a year. These groups are invaluable to our community... it is up to us to make sure they continue to run. I look forward to climbing alongside you! Climb Out of the Darkness® is the world’s largest event raising awareness of maternal mental illnesses like postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety & OCD, postpartum PTSD, postpartum psychosis, bipolar/peripartum onset, and pregnancy depression and anxiety. Climb Out of the Darkness® is held on or near the longest day of the year annually to help shine the most light on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. The event features mothers and others across the globe joining together to climb mountains and hike trails to represent their symbolic rise out of the darkness of maternal mental illness and into the light of hope and recovery. Our Climb will be held on June 24th, 10am, at historic Walden Pond in Concord, MA. Mark your calendars! Help us shine the light of hope with our words and our advocacy efforts so that our fellow mothers will receive better information and better treatment, and their new families will get off to the healthy and strong start they deserve.
