Jeri and I have decided to run a few races (total 4 races, 143 miles) for the cause of saving animals. Please take a quick moment to read thru our Miles for Paws fundraising page.
Undeniably, our pets are part of our families. They love us unconditionally, comfort us at our lowest and celebrate with us at our highest. They make our holiday pictures even when a husky and lab named Sebastian and Mango ate the Thanksgiving turkey. And out in the mid-west, Jakey and Rosie know how to get things done. Jakey once ate a whole plate of bacon upsetting his tummy and threatened to ruin a Madonna luncheon. Rosie helped potty train Bob because he wouldn't go alone so he would drag her along with him.
For ages canines were a man’s best friend, but then came the feline. Yes, most of these creatures may not play fetch or go for walks… actually our girls can, and they sure know how to give a good bath. We can even keep my windows open because we know how good of fly hunters Gigi and Sammy are. The best of all is when they surprise us with a gift “the captured toy”. Yes, the stories can go on.
The bottom line is not everyone can adopt or volunteer, but this is your chance to give a little to the animals that are ALWAYS ready to give us love.
After some research we decided to support the Miles for Paws fitness team see below to read about their cause.
Please give a small donation in support of the Miles For Paws which is the animal welfare charity fitness team of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to transform New York City into a no-kill community by 2015. In collaboration with more than one hundred participating rescue groups and shelters, we have succeeded in saving more than 220,000 lives since 2003. Close to three out of four lives entering AC&C were saved in 2011. To learn more about our progress, please view our 2011 Progress Report. While we've made tremendous progress in saving lives, more work is yet to be done, and more lives are yet to be saved. As with many challenges — including races — the last few miles can be the most difficult.
Your donation can make a difference in the lives of NYC's homeless animals with every mile, avenue, or block you complete. Your efforts and dollars will make a tremendous impact towards reducing euthanasia in NYC. By supporting Miles For Paws, you help us win the race to make NYC into a no-kill community.
