June 7 Update
(You can follow my intermittent blog at: miriammarching.blogspot.com)
This extraordinary venture is 1/3 complete - it is through extremely hard work, passionate determination, blisters and the ever increasing planetary urgency that we are now nearing Colorado Springs on our March to Washington D.C. Tomorrow is June 8th and our 100th day. I am called a "Spirit Walker," one of only about 7 Marchers who have walked every step from the Port of Los Angeles - about 1300 miles. Yesterday we walked 19 miles to the top of Rosita Pass (9,344'). It was spectacularly beautiful and extremely challenging. With our small but mighty group of ordinary citizens, we are spreading the word and walking our talk as we go. Every day we write a letter to President Obama, and we reach out to the schoolchildren and citizens in communities where we stay. We are allied with other groups working to reverse catastrophic climate change, and have a group of "virtual marchers" omline assisting and supporting our efforts. I have never had an experience that was so painfully difficult and remarkably rewarding.
Despite all the usual daily challenges, the biggest challenge we face is for adequate funding to get us the rest of the way. If you are able, please support this epic journey, Marching to help save the world. Gratefully, Miriam
There is nothing more important I can do with my remaining time, energy, resources and passion than to help bring grassroots awareness of our increasingly catastrophic climate crisis by taking 7 million steps to ‘walk my talk.’
I will continue to seek donations after meeting my persoal goal in order to support the March and other marchers.
I will march because I don't have $millions to help with increasing global climate tragedies. I will march to demonstrate the power of ordinary people to reclaim the democratic process and create the political will to do what must be done. I will march so I do not fall into despair. I will march so I can come to know all those other amazing Marchers, and so that together we can make a difference. It has happened before. We can. We will!
In my pocket all across America, I will carry a list of my supporters to remind me that I am not alone, and that there exists a great movement and tremendous will to do the right thing for ourselves, our grandchildren, for all life, and for our Earth.
Many people have pledged to support my 3,000 mile walk, saying, “I can’t go, but I’m so glad you are doing this, and I want to help.” Donate if you can. March for 8 months, for a week or even a day if you can! Follow the march from L.A. to D.C. between 3/1 to 11/1/14. Please spread the word. For the Earth, Miriam
