BENEFITING: McGuire Memorial Foundation
Everyone deserves fullness of life.
The School at McGuire Memorial makes this possible for students ages 3-21 who have complex learning and support needs including children with autism, intellectual disabilities, behavior challenges, neurotic impairments and multiple disabilities. The school promotes the value of each student as a worthwhile member of society, capable of participating and contributing at a unique level.
To honor one such student, The Mitchell Day Scholarship Fund has been created to ensure that a child who needs the programs and services of The School at McGuire Memorial will benefit as Mitchell did.
"Mitchell was born a normal boy, but at three months old he received a DPT vaccination that changed his life forever," explained his father, Brian. "The Pertussis strain was a toxic batch and damaged his brain permanently. His young life was spent in hospitals all over the country trying to figure out how to stop seizures and normalize his life. He has been through many brain surgeries, infections, overdoses, severe falls, and a back surgery. Although nothing was able to be done to stop his condition from progressing, Mitchell has had a positive impact on many people. He is an inspiration to us for what he has endured as he always has a smile for us when we see him."
Mitchell continues to be an inspiration to his family and friends at McGuire Memorial, and we believe that through this scholarship fund he can inspire hope and foster growth for another family who find their way to the nurturing care of McGuire Memorial.
