My Longest Ride
EVENT DATE: Jul 17, 2016
3501 miles across North America from Everett WA to Boston MA, 113 miles per day for a month. I am celebrating that I can do this “When I’m 64” (Thanks Beatles!). You can read more about the ride as it takes place at the Facebook page My Longest Ride.
More seriously, the ride symbolizes the huge challenge of tackling dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. I believe that, like the ride, it can be done. That’s why I am raising money for two organizations that are doing fantastic work in addressing the diseases: one for the present and one for the future.
And I am dedicating the ride to my wife, Valerie, in honor of her strength and humor in dealing with this challenge.
The present. I am riding to support scholarships for families in Northern Virginia who need help to afford the high quality programs provided by Insight Memory Care Center, of Fairfax VA.
The future. I am also riding to support the search for a cure for Alzheimer’s. I love the totally focused approach of the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. It funds research with the highest probability of preventing, slowing, or reversing Alzheimer’s disease. And every donated dollar goes to research—overheads are covered by its Board of Directors.
Click on the “team” buttons on this page to learn more about these two wonderful organizations and make a tax deductible donation to one or both of them. All your donations go to the organizations; I cover all the costs of participating in the ride. Support at the "nickel level", 5 cents a mile would be $175. Any other amount would be equally welcome.
