Transform Women’s lives - Transform Communities. When Hurricane Sandy devastated neighborhoods, NEW graduates and students volunteered in these communities. NEW women, prepared and ready for this type of work, are being hired for clean up and recovery jobs. Across the City, tradeswomen are building schools, housing, parks, and bridges. Avian Perez, a graduate and Laborer with Local 79, volunteered with NEW and Local 79 after the Hurricane. At Avian’s last project, renovating a women’s shelter, the women living there were impressed to witness a woman working construction.
