ORGANIZER: Neurofibromatosis Incorporated Northeast
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I have the distinct honor to run the 2015 Boston Marathon as part of Team NF. As you may know, I’ve been running for the past few years and enjoy the challenge of a new race. I’ve never attempted a marathon before but recently my lifelong friend received news about her toddler son’s health that put life’s challenges into perspective.
I am running the 2015 Boston Marathon to raise awareness for NF and for my little buddy Alex, who was recently diagnosed with Segmental Neurofibromatosis (NF). Before last year I didn’t know much about Neurofibromatosis or commonly known as NF, so if you’re asking yourself what it is here is a brief description.
Neurofibromatosis, NF is a genetic disorder of the nervous system that causes tumors to form on the nerves anywhere in or on the body at any time. NF affects all races, all ethnic groups and both sexes equally. NF affects more people than Cystic Fibrosis and Muscular Dystrophy combined!
Alex is a funny, smart, energetic two year old who will put a smile on your face on even your darkest day. For Alex, it looks as though his NF remains confined to one section of his body, his torso and if the tumors do grow they should remain contained to that area. There is nothing we can do to protect Alex from NF. While there is no cure now, there is hope. The hope lies within research and awareness which make fundraising efforts so essential. Please join me in supporting Alex and all the children impacted by NF. Thank you!
