ORGANIZER: National Justice For Our Neighbors, Inc.
As Christians we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. This includes everybody, no matter where we are from, what our cultural background is, what our faith tradition is, what language we speak, or what documents we have or lack. We are all created by God.
Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON), a United Methodist ministry and national network of people passionate about helping and welcoming our neighbors, gives me hope, especially during this time of division and often expressed exclusion of those considered “different” or “other”. JFON offers high-quality legal immigration services for low-income immigrants, education for faith communities and the public, and engages in advocacy for immigrant rights and reform of our broken immigration system.
Volunteering with JFON-Nebraska since 2005, I have met many immigrants and heard their stories. It has been a blessing to be able to work alongside these immigrants, other volunteers and the highly qualified JFON staff locally and on the national level. Together we can have a stronger voice and ensure that immigrants are given a chance and treated with human dignity.
As we approach the holiday season where we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we remember how he himself was a refugee with his parents shortly after he was born. Jesus says: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35)
