Please donate to our fundraiser for the Shetron family as they try to raise $10,000 to help cover the costs of adopting a new service dog for their son, Jacob.
Jacob is diagnosed with autism, an anxiety disorder, and atypical cystic fibrosis.
Last August while out on a family walk, Jacob's service dog Mickey was attacked by a pit bull. Mickey was a phenomenal service dog for Jacob, helping to calm him and facilitate social interactions.
While Mickey survived the attack he is unable to continue his work as a service dog for Jacob. After the attack, the Shetron family contacted Perfect Fit Canines, a nonprofit organization that trains dogs specifically to help autistic people. It was there that Jacob instantly bonded with Oscar, a 2-year-old black English Labrador retriever.
Each dog is trained with the specific needs of the client in mind. Perfect Fit Canines will work with the Shetrons to ensure Oscar learns Jacob’s needs. However, the Shetrons will have to come up with about $10,000 to adopt Oscar to cover the dog’s extensive training costs.
Jacob will start training with Oscar, and we hope to have Oscar home by Christmas. Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported our fundraisers. You are making a difference in Jacob's life, and our family is truly grateful.
