THE STORY:

Rodney McDonald wrote -

After several months of gathering equipment and official paperwork, any day now a C-17 loaded with used firefighting equipment will land in Managua, Nicaragua. By utilizing the Denton program of the U.S. Reserves, a fire truck will be shipped free of charge for a new life in Granada, Nicaragua. Included in the shipment will be 3 tons of used equipment, such as fire hoses, air tanks, masks, and various medical supplies. ERSLA focuses on three basic needs for sustainable emergency response services – equipment, training and community integration. We are constantly looking for retired or donated equipment. Costs include organizing, crating, transporting, and hundreds of hours of manpower for meetings and paperwork required to balance the political and cultural concerns of two countries. Generally they run between $2,000 and $3,000 per shipment. Please sponsor or contribute for a shipment of equipment for a place in need. Donations to ERSLA will allow us to continue to provide emergency services here in Nicaragua, and to save lives. ERSLA’s mission statement is to create sustainable, trained emergency and prevention systems in Latin American countries.
